Challenges for
land-based LNG regasification:
-
The high cost of land-based
LNG regasification terminals
-
Environmental impact
on land-based regasification plants
-
Perception of LNG as 'unsafe' with extraordinary attention to accidents – LNG in particular and shipping
generally
-
No perfect location
- "not in my back yard (NIMBY)"
-
New sites difficult to find and existing sites under
scrutiny
-
Most commercially attractive sites/markets are the most populated, and
strongly opposed
by the neighbors.
Exmar's LNG Transport Innovation
Include:
-
1978 -
LNGC Methania delivered from Boelwerf. At 131,000 cbm, the Methania
was the largest LNGC in the world at the time of delivery.
-
2002
- LNCG Excalibur delivered from DSME. The Exmar Excalibur was the
first vessel designed for "worldwide trading" standards
adopted for all 138,000 to 145,000 cbm vessels.
-
2004
- LNGC Excelisor delivered from DSME -
World's first LNG vessel capable of regasification on board.
-
2005-2008
-
From the current design 138,000 cbm LNGRV to the concept design 200,000 cbm and 250,000 cbm, Exmar will continue to lead the way in
LNGRV vessel design and construction. We had additional vessels come
online in 2005, 2006, and 2008.
-
FUTURE - Four additional vessels with 150,900 cbm capacity are scheduled for 2009 and 2010 delivery.
